Now, it's no secret that at Concept North we love nothing more than to discover and learn about the fantastic brands we have up North! So, as you can imagine, we were super excited when the lovely Gemma Stockberger, Marketing & Sales Manager at Versital, agreed to sit down with us over a cuppa!
If you haven't yet heard of Versital, then you're in for a treat! They are the makers of gorgeous, yet practical, hand-made solid surface material. With a variety of natural looking marble and granite finishes and a gorgeous sparkle surface range, Versital products are perfect for luxury bathrooms and commercial installations. Each piece of Versital is made to order from stone resin, allowing clients to specify exact measurements when ordering and they're seriously hard-wearing too! Here’s what Gemma had to say…
"We'd love to know more about the history and people behind Versital, could you tell us a bit more about how the company began?
Versital started in 1990 when our managing director was offered the opportunity to purchase the production process of Versital. We took on a team who were already experienced in the basic process and developed the product range further by creating a new and exclusive colour range unique to Versital. Over the past 30 years we have created a range of colour options including the marble and ‘Onyx’ range, the high gloss high sparkle ‘Reflect’ range, and more recently the ‘Metallic Marble’ and ‘Inspired by Pantone’ colour finishes. We are always working with designers to create new and exciting colours that are at the forefront of design.
Where do you find inspiration for the finishes in your collection?
We are design led and are often inspired by the designers with whom we work. Their likes and requests will often shape us in the direction of our next colours. As a supplier to the Hospitality sector we also take a keen interest in what is going on in the latest bar and restaurant designs. The recent trend for copper and metal elements had a huge influence on our latest collection – the ‘Metallic Marbles’ as we wanted to include the metal element within our surfaces themselves. We are also keen followers of the ‘Colour of the Year by Pantone’ and often introduce a new colour to follow the trend. This year we introduced ‘Blush’ to complement the colour of the year ‘Living Coral’.
Tell us more about the type of projects you work on and what is your favourite?
We are lucky to be able to work on a wide range of project types. We have a lot of clients in the hospitality sector where we supply bar tops, table tops and washroom vanities in beautiful marble and other solid surface finishes. We also create custom shower trays, panels and tops for hotels and domestic bathrooms. There is something very special about seeing our product in a brand new designer bar, but the pleasure a domestic customer gets from a beautifully installed bathroom with gorgeous surfaces is hard to beat. For them it is very personal and therefore when they get good service and love the final result it can get quite emotional! They often send us photos of the final result and it’s so satisfying to see it all come together for a happy customer.
Do you have a preferred finish from the range?
That is such a hard question! There are so many to choose from and it depends on the décor and colour scheme. That being said, if I had to choose it would have to be Arabesque. It’s a classic white marble with swirls of grey and black veining. It’s a fab neutral that goes with pretty much any colour scheme, is so forgiving in even the busiest settings and looks so realistic compared to real Carrara marble. Plus being stain proof it is the ideal alternative. Customers are always delighted with the result!
We understand you have just released a new collection. Would you like to explain more about it and how it's so different from the others?
The latest collection has very much been a collaboration between us and the design community, with a lot of the finishes being created over the past year for different hospitality projects. Annually we release a new colour following Pantone’s colour of the Year, so the ‘Inspired by Pantone’ was a natural step for a new collection. The finishes are a mixture of ‘Colour of the Year’ and modern trend lead colours that we have created with designers. They were too nice not to share! The collection is an eclectic mix of bright primary colours, as well as earthy tones. Ideal for both commercial and domestic projects."
