CN: Through the eyes of... is a series of blog posts written by members of the Concept North community. We wanted to see what Concept North looks like from the other side; to look at our meet-ups through the eyes of our guests and to hear their thoughts and experiences. First up, we've got houseof.com!
'houseof was born out of a shared personal philosophy that people matter and that personality should be celebrated not ignored. Here you’ll find an online movement, inspired by the people who form it and full of like-minded people to be inspired by. We are all here to change the way online retail works, by empowering our community with expert information, design and inspiration. Opening ourselves up to real, ongoing conversations.
We just happen to sell incredible lights.'
The thought of going to an event and having to network with total strangers, can be quite a daunting prospect (especially in our case). However, Concept North is so much more than just being there to hand out your business cards and stand in the corner. It’s about feeling at ease, building relationships with people in the industry, finding out about other trades, creating opportunities, becoming part of a comminuty and mosty importantly, enjoying yourself!
The lovely ladies at Concept North, contacted us about lending them some houseof lighting for their events and since then we have been to two of their gatherings. Recently, visiting their summer meet-up, held in the Lake District.
If you have an initial idea about what a networking event might be like, then Concept North will change that. The events we have been to so far, have been incredibly relaxed and informal with summer barbecues, drinks, live music and exciting goody bags to take away.
As a start up, we think it’s really important to make connections within the industry and to have conversations. These events allow us to meet potential customers as well as people we could work with in the future. Being based in the South, Concept North is a brilliant way to gain contacts with all the extremely talented people in the North, that we are unlikely to make otherwise.
Something that we love about the girls, is that, they are keen to promote community over competition. Being part of a community is so important to our business because, speaking to other like-minded people means you can learn so much from each other. It can present exciting opportunities and it also offers a great network of support and opinion.
The events are always held in well considered and beautiful spaces, like the Grade 1 listed Arts & Crafts house, designed by Charles Voysey which was on stunning Lake Windermere in the Lake District. After the girls had re-arranged the entire space and added our lights, we were delighted with how our modern designs contrasted against the architectural features of the building. Our lighting is always in great company at the events with other amazing brands featuring.
We love supporting businesses who want to do good and this is exactly what the girls are achieving with Concept North. We have met some fantasic people so far and we are very much looking forward to attending lots more events with the girls.
